Burndy was founded on July 19, 1924 in Brooklyn, New York and was named after its founder, Bern Dibner. Bern was a science and civic leader who designed and patented neither a universal connector that didn't require soldering nor welding thereby enabling a unified grid. The company has gone through several acquisitions since its founding in July 19, 1924. The first acquisition it underwent was in 1988 when it was acquired by a French corporation Framatome Connectors International.

Framatome is a manufacturer and a designer of a wide array of hi-tech connector solutions for various applications such as motorized vehicles, telecommunications, data storage, consumer electronics and industrial and medical instrumentation. Framatome was acquired by Bain Capital in November 2005. In 2009, the Burndy segment became part of the Hubbell Electrical Systems family of companies. Hubbell Electrical Systems is an international manufacturer of electrical and electronic products for a variety of industries such as non-residential and residential construction, industrial and utility applications. Hubbell believed by acquiring Burndy, Burndy would enhance Hubbell’s offering with their high quality product line. Today Burndy remains a segment of Hubbell Electrical Systems and is headquartered in Manchester, New Hampshire. They have three US manufacturing facilities and also manufacturing facilities located in Mexico and Brazil. They manufacturer connectors, fittings and tools for a variety of markets.
