OMRON: A Japan Company

OMRON is a worldwide manufacturer based in Kyoto, Japan. The company was established in 1933, in a time when the manufacturing industry needed an increase in productivity, which was crucial for its success. OMRON was originally called Tateisi Electric Manufacturing Company, but the name was changed in January 1959.

OMRON began with its founder, Mr. Tateisi, manufacturing X-ray machines that were tested and proved to be effective in hospitals. His first large client was Dai Nippon X-ray Manufacturing Co. who requested many orders. The success of the X-ray machine helped dictate the future of other technological developments for the company. Today, OMRON is a manufacturer of automation components, equipment and systems.

With all of its current business sectors, Omron had gross sales of 730 billion dollars for the fiscal year 2013 and employed 36,842 people worldwide. Its largest business sector is industrial automation, which consists of 38% of OMRON’s business, for Fiscal 2013. The second largest business segment is the electronic and mechanical components business, which consists of 13% of OMRON’s business.
